Seven Masters ~ Course Tour

I would like to welcome you to this unique 'short-form' meditation course. Based on the primary meditative teachings of seven of the world's most important spiritual masters, this course is also grounded in a new scientific understanding of cognitive shifting and consciousness management .

  • You are about to embark on an inner exploration that is definitely a lifetime journey - deeper and deeper into your own core of being. Meditation is the process of self discovery - and the awakening of your full awareness and potential.

The mental tools you're going to be learning how to use to their best advantage include your mind's power of attention, and your ability to choose where to focus that power of attention, each new moment of your life. Attention is the meditation tool This method offers both an ancient and also a unique new way to employ your attention.

No Nonsense

There are no grand religious fantasies or mystic theories and theologies attached to this meditation method. I personally do my best not to fool myself with any of my own imaginings when it comes to spiritual exploration. Reality is what we're going to explore together in this course - the infinite inner reality of who you really are, and what you are genuinely capable of accomplishing.

My job over the last thirty years has been to study and immerse myself in all of the most effective traditional meditation methods of the world, and then as a psychologist to identify the underlying psychological process common to all these meditation methods. This has been my life's work, and it's been a remarkable study and inner journey!

  • I'm overjoyed at the age of 60 to finally arrive at this point where clarity has come, insights have been fulfilled, and a solid, effective and even downright easy-to-master method has emerged.

My role in this course is simply to teach you new ways to use your own power of attention, so that you can focus in remarkably worthwhile directions inward to your own true spiritual self.

Your role is primary here - I will serve as your guide up to a certain point, teaching you a mental process and set of focus phrases that regularly aim your attention like a bright beam of consciousness toward inner realms of your own being -

  • ...but ultimately I step aside so that you can enjoy your own unique experience, uninfluenced by any of my expectations or traditional notions of spiritual awakening - it's always new in genuine meditation!

There does exist a reality in life that transcends all our ideas and imaginations and theologies and traditions. This course will teach you how to hold your mind's power of attention toward the greater reality of life, so that you can more and more live within that greater reality.

Unique Dimensions

Even though the seven core expansions of consciousness that you'll master in this meditation course are grounded in the ancient meditation tradition, there are a number of unique facets to this new method that make it especially exciting, powerful, and easy to master:

1: Seven-Expansion Meditation ~ From my studies of all the world's best meditation traditions, and from research I conducted in consciousness expansion, it became clear to me that all successful meditation moves through seven natural expansions.

  • What I've done is clarify and simplify this universal 7-step expansion process, so that you have a clear method to move through each time you pause to regain your senses and reconnect with your spiritual core of being.

In this course you'll learn about these seven expansions of consciousness in the seven primary classes - and also learn a meditation that helps you move through each expansion successfully.

No matter what emotional inhibitions or mental contractions you might be burdened with as you approach this meditation process, the method is designed to make sure that you succeed with each expansion, and steadily heal old wounds and expand more fully into your greater spiritual presence.

2: Help From The Seven Masters ~ During my studies and explorations of the various meditation traditions of the world, I found that certain traditions highlighted a particular expansion and offered special insights into how to regularly move through that expansion.

  • Seven spiritual masters in particular deeply influenced my own exploration of meditation, and so I have drawn from their teachings in this course and method, merging their insights with the scientific methods I found most valuable.

My discipline has been to identify points of total congruence between the ancient tradition and most-current science, and to build this method upon those points of congruence - this assures optimum success!

To whatever extent that you want to, based on your personal beliefs in this regard, you can open your heart to the spiritual guidance of these seven masters - and receive that extra boost and help.

3: Short-Form Timeframe ~ Traditional meditation requires at least half an hour to an hour a day, all at one time. You must discipline yourself rigorously to sit still for this long time period - which most people find extremely difficult. And all too often, the positive effects gained in meditation fade before you're back in action where you really need those effects.

  • Employing special new methods and insights from cognitive science and my own consciousness research, I've developed a short-form approach to meditation - where you rapidly shift into an expanded quality of consciousness in just a minute or two.

This short-form approach to meditation enables you to pause anywhere, anytime during your day, and quickly tap the power of meditation - and then continue with your day in this expanded, more compassionate and conscious state of mind.

You can of course also meditate for longer periods of time a few times during the day. I will provide you with guided meditations that you can readily master, for one minute, three minute, six minute, ten minute and thirty minute timeframes.

4: Focus Phrase Technology ~ I found traditional meditation techniques grounded in psychological truth, but too often overlaid and even distorted and inhibited by religious dogma and ritual. All too often, the psychological laws of consciousness expansion were being thwarted by priestly manipulation and theological confusion.

  • Drawing on recent insights from cognitive psychology and from research I conducted for the National Institute of Health, I have developed what I call 'focus phrases' to help you immediately re-direct your attention exactly where it's needed, in order to elicit the desired expansion of consciousness.

The regular use of the seven focus phrases in this meditation method will enable you to take charge of your mind, and focus your attention immediately in meditative directions.

All you need to do in this method is memorize the seven key focus phrases I'll teach you, and then say these focus phrases to yourself. After the training in this course, saying the focus phrases will elicit an associative response in your mind that wakes up a particular expansion of consciousness.

5: Guided Audio Training ~ Traditionally most people learned how to meditate from someone who already had mastered the method - and this learning took place almost entirely by listening to the voice of the teacher over and over, until the method was internalized.

  • We're blessed with new forms of audio delivery that enable us to tap into audio guidance anytime and anywhere. I'm truly excited to be bringing this meditation training program to you via the internet and related technologies, that enable you to easily receive deep audio guidance.

Meditation is not an intellectual pursuit - you're not taking this course primaily to acquire new information. The purpose of this course is to deliver experience rather than information. Therefore my intent is to use my voice to point your attention toward whatever new experience is ready to come to you, from your own inner spiritual core.

In this light, you will want to return to each of the seven primary classes of this course over and over, and listen to the guided audio meditation for each class a number of times so that you truly learn the process by heart.

6: Meditation In Action ~ You will probably want to take the seven classes of this course in a quiet calm environment where you can go deeply into the process and learn it fully. However, the method itself is designed to go to work with you, go on dates with you, sit in waiting rooms with you, take walks with you, join you in the shower or in bed or on your bicycle or wherever -

  • The one-minute and three-minute versions of this meditation program can be downloaded into your Walkman or iPod or car stereo or wherever, so that you can quickly get a consciousness boost many times a day.

And most importantly, in a few weeks you'll begin to internalize the seven-step process as you memorize the seven focus phrases - so that you need zero external guidance from me. The intent is for you to wean yourself from my audio guidance and be fully empowered on your own, to move through the meditation!

You'll also find other in-action programs at my main site that turn this basic meditation process into specific help in various aspects of your word-a-day life. All of my other programs and courses are grounded in this basic seven-step expansion of consciousness - because this seems to be the fundamental reality of consciousness management.

7: "Quiet Your Mind" Discovery ~ Certainly one of the most difficult challenges in traditional meditation is that of successfully silencing the constant chatter of our thinking minds. So many people start but then quit meditation because they fail to quiet their own minds.

  • During my research into mind management for NIMH, I was lucky enough to take part in experiments that stumbled upon a sure-fire mind-management technique for quieting all thoughts in the mind, in just a minute or two.

The meditation method you're learning in this course teaches you this 'quiet your mind' technique so that you become a master of the process. Merging perceptual psychology with ancient wisdom and methods, you'll very soon be able to just say No to bothersome thoughts - wherever you are and whatever you're doing.

If this quiet-mind technique is all you learn in this course, it'll be well worth it! Meditation is so helpful in life specifically because it quiets all the worried and judgmental thoughts that upset our lives. Once you get good at quieting your mind, your spiritual life naturally unfolds!

What You Do Here

This course is very easy to navigate and complete. Hold in mind that there's no one pushing you to hurry through this learning process - so you can relax and fully enjoy each new day.

  • There's also no grade and no expectations - you're completely free to just open up and see what you discover with zero external judgment or pressure.

However, that said - your own dedication will be required to move you daily through the learning process. What you're bringing to this learning equation is your attention. Obviously if you don't devote time and attention each day to this course, you won't learn the method.

So please see if you can establish a discipline that regularly brings you back to this online course and your involvement in each new class. You have a great many other things trying to get your attention - make sure that you remember to spend time each day learning how to better manage your own consciousness!

Learning Format

SEVEN CLASSES: There are seven primary classes in this course. By scrolling over the CLASSES button on your right, these seven classes appear - and you just click on the one that you're presently taking.

  • You can either move through a new class each new day for a week, and then return and take all the classes again in sequence - or you can spend a few days moving through a class several times, especially listening to the audio guidance over and over until you know it by heart.

FIVE STEPS PER CLASS: Each class includes four dimensions to move through:

1: Overview ~ This offers a quick introduction to the class, so that you gain a general feeling for the contents of the class.

2: The Master ~ This discussion introduces the particular master associated with this class, this focus phrase and this expansion of consciousness. You can of course explore this master's life and tradition in more depth on your own as well.

3: The Process ~ This section of the class delivers a discussion about the method, my experience developing the process, and the psychological aspects of the particular expansion.. Even if you've read or intend to read my Seven Masters book, I've written this online discussion of the process from a different vantage point than the book, so that it sheds extra light on the process at hand.

4: Audio Meditation ~ Now we come to the heart of the learning experience for each class - the 10-minute guided session that includes a short discussion of the process, and then moves into a deep guided experience so that you discover for yourself, with zero effort, the power of the method.

5: Your Journal ~ A vital part of any learning experience is your own expression of what you're discovering in each class. I highly encourage you to take plenty of time each day to write in your journal (Word Document). By writing your experiences, your hopes, your doubts, your questions, and your insights each day, you'll solidify this process into long-term memory, and truly master the process!
